Jonas Borces Beauty Studio Marks 15th Anniversary

Wow. That's a long time to be around. We are sending out a big congratulations with hugs and kisses to Jonas Borces who celebrated the 15th Anniversary of his beauty studio on June 8 with what else? Mongos and pancit! Yummmm.

Everyone loves Jonas Borces. He's one of the sweetest and nicest persons you'll ever meet. He definitely deserves all the success. Cheers! I love his ad campaign for Power Straight, the hair treatment his salon is best known for. Have you ever gotten a Power Straight from Jonas Borces? Tell us what you think. Would you recommend it? I remember getting it a couple times. Although it took a few hours to process, it was totally worth it. You get shiny, beautiful hair just like these ladies below.

Makeup Inspiration: 3 Fashion Icons

Check out this amazing work from Emi Ayag and team. But one could expect no less. All three images brought to mind 3 fashion icons of our generation-Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Jones and Lady Gaga. Faboosh! Great ideas for a costume party, don't you think? P.S. That model (Apriel Smith) sure can work it in front of the camera!

Rudynah Entera Capone: What's In Her Makeup Kit?

currently residing in Napoleonville, LA U.S.A.

Occupation: Rockstar Wife / Regional Transportation Safety Planner / Writer / Actress
(Visit her website to learn more about her.)

What’s the one beauty product you can’t live without?
"I say double-zer, moisturizer and bronzer!" I specifically like Estee Lauder's DayWear moisturizer.

What’s your favorite makeup/beauty tip?
Keep your makeup light. Do not overdo it.

Where do you usually shop for beauty products?
I buy them from my local Rite Aid store, and sometimes from Dillard's in Southland Mall or Mall of Louisiana (MOL). Occasionally I order products online via esteelauder.com and maccosmetics.com. Those are two of my favorite brands.

1. Nothing beats this MAC compact with natural blush and three eye shadow shades!

2. I start with moderate amount of Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone on my clean face, then moisturize with Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Moisturizer SPF15. I use my Ecotools (environment-friendly) brush to powder up with Revlon ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powder (that's after I put on my L'oreal Visible Lift liquid foundation though!)

3. I am loving the texture of Korres (Greek brand) under eye concealer; it just looks natural on my tan skin tone. I'm not a big fan of lipstick, so I just use Maybelline's Cherry lip gloss!

4. Revlon Mineral Finishing Powder

5 & 6. My soft EcoTools brush, Revlon powder, MAC blush and three shades of Bare Minerals eyeshadow.

7. Four of my favorite things!

8&9. Apparently, I still have plenty of room in my cosmetic case! Haha.

10. The City Color Bronzer absolutely enhances my naturally tan look and defines my jawlines.

11&12. My eye-enhancing buddies--dark brown L'oreal Telescopic Eye Liner, black Estee Lauder mascara and navy Almay Blendable Eye Pencil.

Brains Before Beauty: A new book solves all your conundrums

Hello everyone. Happy Thursday! This morning I learned that there's a new book out called, "Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm?: Top Cosmetic Scientists Answer Your Questions about the Lotions, Potions and Other Beauty Products You Use Every Day." In this book, cosmetic scientists at The Beauty Brains reveal how cosmetic products work, what advertising claims actually mean, and how to make smarter buying decisions. You will learn details to the following truths below and so much more!

Everywhere we go, everywhere we look, we are inundated with messages. Cosmetics companies spend thousands of dollars on advertising to make us want to buy their products. It's nice to know that there are sources like this out there for consumers to educate themselves with. Knowledge is power. Will you be buying it?

TEN TRUTHS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR COSMETICS:

1. Curling Shampoos Don't Work!

2. Wearing the right fragrance can actually make people think you have lost weight.

3. While brushing your hair does temporarily help distribute natural oils, in the long run brushing "100 strokes every night" strips layers of cuticle and weakens hair.

4. There is no proof that tourmaline fl at irons perform any better than the less expensive non-ceramic versions.

5. Sunscreen is one of the best cosmetics you can use to keep your skin looking young and wrinkle-free.

6. Spit on a zit may not be an old wives' tale after all!

7. There is a difference between antiperspirant and deodorant. Antiperspirant actually stops you from sweating, while deodorant just masks the odor.

8. No cosmetic will make your nails grow longer and stronger, but you can do things to improve their condition.

9. Urea is found in cosmetics, but it does not come from urine!

10. Multiple types of parabens are used in formulas to ensure that your personal care and cosmetic products are as free as possible from disease-causing microbes.
